1.1 Procedures of Teaching
I prepared a lesson plan good for a double-period class (1 hour and 40 minutes). The class begun with a greeting from the students and then from the teacher. I started a recap with my students regarding last week’s lesson on job interviews. This recap became my bridge to connect my students to my new lesson and thus, giving them a familiar idea of the lesson. The next step was the presentation of the sample job application letter. This helps the students have a concrete idea of what I’m discussion to them. I broke down and pointed out the contents of the letter to them so that information would be easier to digest. After that, I made the students take out their notebooks and start writing their own letter. I gave them guidelines as to the contents of the letter including the person and the company the letter should be addressed to.
1.3 Problem-solving
The problem I encountered with the discussion was that there was some difficulty in my discussion because I made the class write a whole new letter on their own rather than starting simple and give them sample sentences that they could just rewrite according the new content. I was able to realize this in the middle of class and provide the class sample sentences for them to rewrite, revise and add in their letter.
1.4 Classroom management
My way of managing the class was that I made them think of themselves in an actual work place where they needed to be quiet. I made them understand how it is important for silence to be observed since a noisy environment can affect other people’s concentration. The class was impressively quiet throughout and basing on my observation, they were focused on the task at hand.
1.5 Others
One remark that I would like to add is that being observant of your students’ learning patterns are crucial for teachers. Understanding their learning patterns can greatly help us in customizing our discussions in order to benefit everyone; like, we can create better classroom activities that every student in our classroom can find interesting and enjoyable.
